RT. 50 LANE CLOSURES AT GALLOWS RD MOVING TO DAYTIME
Ongoing bridge work occurring until early to mid-November
FAIRFAX – Beginning Monday, October 5, lane closures on Route 50 at the Gallows Road interchange will be shifting from nighttime to daytime hours in order to repair the center pier of the overpass, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The left lane of eastbound Route 50 and the left lane of westbound Route 50 will be closed Monday through Thursday, starting each day at 9:30 a.m. and lasting until 3 p.m.
The closures will occur until early to mid-November.
In addition to the normal Monday through Thursday closures, weekend nighttime closures may also be necessary. Should the need arise, they will occur Friday and Saturday from 10 each night until 8 the following morning.
This week’s scheduled closures will continue to occur at night as they have since September 8. The left lane of eastbound Route 50 and the left lane of westbound Route 50 will be closed Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1 from 10 each night until 5 the following morning.
In switching from nighttime to daytime, the improved visibility will make it safer to work.
The total cost of the repairs to the center pier is $510,000.
