RT. 50 LANE CLOSURES AT GALLOWS RD BEGIN NEXT WEEK
Nighttime bridge work over eight weeks

FAIRFAX – Beginning Tuesday, September 8, nighttime lane closures will occur on Route 50 at the Gallows Road interchange in order to repair the center pier of the overpass, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The left lane of eastbound Route 50 and the left lane of westbound Route 50 will be closed each night starting at 10 and will reopen at 5 the following morning.

The work will occur over a period of eight weeks Monday through Thursday nights. The exceptions are the holiday weeks of September 7 and October 12, when work will take place Tuesday through Thursday nights.

The repairs to the Gallows Road bridge’s center pier are the first phase of the bridge rehabilitation project. The first phase’s total cost is $510,000. The second phase, which totals $2.1 million, is scheduled to begin construction next year.
