Drivers asked to use alternate routes

Stringfellow-Poplar.jpgCHANTILLY From 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, until 5 a.m. Saturday, drivers can expect Stringfellow Road to be closed between Point Pleasant Drive and Chantilly High School, as well as the intersection at Poplar Road. Crews will install an overhead structure that will span the intersection diagonally and carry four new signals as part of the Stringfellow widening project.

During the closure:

  • Northbound traffic on Stringfellow Road will be directed to Point Pleasant Drive to access Route 50 to the north.
  • Southbound Stringfellow drivers are encouraged to use Majestic Lane and Lees Corner Road as alternate routes. Local traffic on Southbound Stringfellow Road will be permitted to access Stream Valley Drive only.
  • Drivers on Poplar Tree Road should use Majestic Lane and Fallen Oak Drive as alternate routes.

Fairfax County Police will direct traffic during the closures.

The $63 million project widens Stringfellow Road to two lanes in each direction from Fair Lakes Boulevard to Route 50. Traffic has been shifted to the project’s new southbound lanes, and work is on track to complete the northbound side to open all four lanes—including turn lanes and permanent signals—in December 2014, about six months ahead of schedule. The entire project is scheduled for completion in July 2015.
