ALEXANDRIA – The Virginia Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting regarding the replacement of the Seminary Road (Route 420) pedestrian bridge Thursday, Nov. 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Francis C. Hammond Middle School Auditorium, 4646 Seminary Road in Alexandria.

A presentation will be made from 7 to 7:30 p.m., with a question and answer session to follow immediately.

Citizens are invited to learn about:

  • Schedule and duration of temporary closures of the Seminary Road pedestrian bridge
  • Implementation of a safe, alternate pedestrian route, access and crossings
  • Details on the work and improvements being made for the new stand-alone pedestrian bridge and replacement of Seminary Bridge

The pedestrian bridge replacement is part of the $76 million I-395 HOV Ramp and Auxiliary Lane project. The 0.8-mile auxiliary lane on 395 connecting the northbound on-ramp at Duke Street (Route 236) to the northbound off-ramp at Seminary is scheduled to open by the end of the year. The reversible HOV/transit ramp at Seminary is scheduled to open in late September 2015.
