PURCELLVILLE – The Virginia Department of Transportation will host a community information meeting regarding the replacement of the Forest Mills Road (Route 727) bridge over Crooked Run Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Lincoln Elementary School, 18048 Lincoln Road in Purcellville. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The 68-foot-long existing single-lane bridge was built in 1932. The bridge has been deemed structurally deficient, which does not mean that it is in danger of imminent failure, but that its condition has deteriorated to a point where it should be replaced or can no longer carry today’s heavier vehicle loads.

The bridge will be replaced by a new single-lane structure. Safety will be improved with the addition of railings. The length and alignment of the new bridge will likely remain similar to the existing one.

At the meeting, VDOT will present the following information regarding the project:

  • Existing Bridge Summary and Condition
  • New Bridge Design Criteria
  • Environmental Summary
  • Traffic Impacts and Detour
  • Bridge Alternatives

The cost estimate for the project is $1.7 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017.
