CHANTILLY – Crews will excavate and reconstruct Fair Lakes Boulevard Thursday and Friday nights, Nov. 6-7, and during the day Saturday, Nov. 8 as part of the Stringfellow Road widening project. The work will involve full-depth asphalt removal and replacement between Great Heron Drive and Stringfellow Road.

From 8 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday, and from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday, drivers can expect the following:
• All turns from Stringfellow onto Fair Lakes Boulevard will be closed. Drivers are asked to use Fair Lakes Parkway as an alternate. Fairfax County Police will direct traffic.
• Traffic wishing to head east on Fair Lakes Boulevard from Stringfellow Road will be redirected to Fair Lakes Parkway with electronic message signs.
• Westbound Fair Lakes Boulevard through traffic to Stringfellow Road will be shifted to the eastbound lanes.

Drivers are asked to proceed carefully on Fair Lakes Boulevard while it is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, as the westbound lanes will be in an unpaved, gravel condition.

The $63 million Stringfellow Road project widens the road to two lanes in each direction from Fair Lakes Boulevard to Route 50. Traffic has been shifted to the new southbound lanes, and work is on track to complete the northbound side to open all four lanes—including turn lanes and permanent signals—in December 2014, about six months ahead of schedule. The entire project is scheduled for completion in July 2015.
