MANASSAS—The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Office of Civil Rights will host its 9th Annual Transportation Career for high school students on Oct. 3 at the Prince William County Fairgrounds in Manassas from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The career fair exposes high school students to the rewarding and diverse careers in the transportation industry, including engineering, construction, architecture, environmental and technology.

More than 1,000 students from high schools in northern Virginia are expected to attend and view exhibits from 76 companies, government agencies and institutions of higher learning. At least 45 pieces of equipment, such as helicopters and fire trucks, will be on display. AAA Mid-Atlantic will make a lunchtime presentation on the dangers of distracted driving.

“Our goal is to show high school students first-hand that fulfilling career opportunities exist in transportation, construction and engineering along with a variety of support industries,” said Leslie Martin, VDOT Civil Rights Manager.
