VIRGINIA 4 A.M. TRAFFIC CONDITION UPDATE
As planned, Virginia State Police began moving into position at 3 a.m. to begin the Interstate 395 northbound and Interstate 66 eastbound restrictions inside the Capitol Beltway. By 4 a.m. all state and local restrictions were completed.
This means drivers heading north on I-95 from Fredericksburg and Richmond towards Washington, D.C., will be diverted at the Springfield Interchange onto the Capitol Beltway/I-495. Drivers will have a choice of taking either I-495/I-95 East or I-495 West. As motorists approach I-495, they will be greeted by overhead message boards indicating the diversion points onto the Capital Beltway.
Those heading east on I-66 and the Dulles Toll Road will also be diverted onto I-495. Again, motorists can travel in either direction on the Beltway and will be directed by overhead message boards.
The Memorial, Key and Chain bridges are now open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic only. Vehicular traffic is allowed outbound only on the Key and Chain bridges on Tuesday.
At the 6 a.m. briefing, Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) will begin providing updates on the Park and Ride lots. Transit operators just began operating at 4 a.m.
