Extended Overnight Closures Continue Through October For Paving On I-66
Lanes closed on I-66 between Route 234 Business and Route 29 in Centreville

FAIRFAX – Drivers should expect nightly lane closures that include extended evening and morning hours in the non-peak commute direction for paving work on I-66 between Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) and Route 29 in Centreville this week and continuing through October. Double lane closures on I-66 East on weekdays will begin as early as 7 p.m. and continue until as late as 5 a.m. to accommodate the work. Double lane closures on I-66 West on weekdays will begin as early as 9 p.m. and continue until as late as 10 a.m.  Drivers should plan ahead to avoid construction delays.

Details of planned work include: 

I-66 East from Route 234 Business to Route 29 Centreville

  • Sunday: 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Monday through Thursday: 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

I-66 West from Route 29 Centreville to Route 234 Business

  • Sunday through Thursday: 9 p.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Work on I-66 West will progress from east to west. Work on I-66 East will progress from west to east. Crews will generally mill and pave one lane each night.

When complete, the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project will feature three general purpose and two Express Lanes in each direction from I-495/Capital Beltway to Route 29 in Gainesville. The I-66 Outside the Beltway Express Lanes are expected to open in December 2022.
