Public hearing scheduled for Route 29 (Main Street) bridge replacement project in Town of Altavista

LYNCHBURG - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a public hearing in July to show plans for the proposed replacement of the Route 29 (Main Street) bridge in the Town of Altavista.

The public hearing will be held Tuesday, July 12 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Altavista High School, 904 Bedford Avenue, Altavista, VA 24517.

The purpose of the meeting is to give citizens an opportunity to review and discuss design plans for the replacement of the Route 29 (Main Street) bridge over Staunton River and Norfolk-Southern Railroad. During construction the existing bridge will be closed and traffic will be detoured around the site.

To give the public flexibility in their participation, there will be no formal presentation. Instead, citizens will be able to review revised plans with VDOT representatives at their convenience anytime between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Maps and other materials pertaining to the project are available for review at the VDOT Lynchburg District Office, 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia.  For additional information, or if you require special assistance to participate in the meeting, please call the VDOT District Office at (434) 947-6559 or device for hearing impaired (TTY) at 711.
