LYNCHBURG – (2:00 pm) – While today’s sunshine has been appreciated by everyone – the public and Virginia Department of Transportation alike, the warmth and resulting snow/ice melt needs to be on our minds tonight when refreeze is likely to occur.

Primary routes, those with the highest volumes of traffic, across VDOT’s Lynchburg District are generally clear; however, secondary roads and neighborhood streets may still be ice covered. Anything that has melted may freeze again today and motorists need to be alert.

If travel is necessary during icy weather, do so with caution and know the road conditions before heading out. Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also on Facebook and the district’s Twitter account, @VaDOTLynchburg.

The Lynchburg District includes the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
