VDOT CREWS AT WORK AS HEAVY SNOW CONTINUES
Roadways are snow covered across Lynchburg District
LYNCHBURG—Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) continue working to keep the roadways safe as heavy snow falls throughout the overnight hours and into Tuesday.
Crews are operating in 12-hour shifts to plow and apply salt and abrasives on the roadways. Current efforts are concentrated on primary routes, those with the highest traffic volumes. The goal is to have all state-maintained roads passable within 48 hours after the end of the storm.
Motorists are advised to delay travel during winter weather. If travel is necessary, use extreme caution, allow extra time and be prepared for delays.
Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also on Facebook and the district’s Twitter account, @VaDOTLynchburg.
