Snow, ice likely to cover roads

LYNCHBURG- Virginia Department of the Transportation (VDOT) crews in the Lynchburg District are responding to the snow that is falling across the district this morning and preparing for the possibility of more icy conditions.

Crews conducted anti-icing operations on several major roadways yesterday. Today, crews have started applying sand and salt, as appropriate and will begin plowing on primary routes once roads are covered by approximately two inches of snow. Crew will concentrate their efforts on these routes during the storm and will move to secondary routes after the storm has ended and these major routes are in good condition.

Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also on Facebook and the district’s Twitter account, @VaDOTLynchburg.

The Lynchburg District includes the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
