LYNCHBURG – Motorists may face difficult road conditions today. High winds, bitter cold and remnants of the snowstorm that blew through the state continue to create potentially dangerous driving in some locations.

Numerous trees have been reported down across the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).  The Lynchburg District includes the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.

Icy patches are reported on many roads.  Motorists are urged to use caution and pay particular attention to shaded areas, bridges and overpasses. Due to the low temperatures and winds, any moisture on the roadways will quickly freeze.

Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also available on VDOT’s website and Facebook, as well as the various VDOT district-specific Twitter accounts.
