LYNCHBURG – Motorists should be alert to possible icy road conditions this morning as a mixed bag of precipitation is being reported across portions of the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) at this time.

Light snow and sleet are falling in various areas and may lead to some slick roadways and surfaces.  VDOT crews have been monitoring conditions and will apply chemicals and/or abrasives, as appropriate to assist with melting and traction.

If travel is necessary during the storm, motorists should check current road conditions by calling 511 or visiting before venturing out. In addition, drivers should pay particular attention to bridges, overpasses, ramps, and shady spots where ice may form first.

The Lynchburg District covers the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
