VDOT Holds Public Meeting on 643 Bridge Project in Amherst County

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a location and design public hearing on a proposed project on Route 643, Wagon Trail Road, over Horsley Creek in Amherst County

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Pleasant View Elementary School, 229 Dancing Creek Road, Monroe, VA 24574.  An inclement weather date of Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. will be used if necessary.

This hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project.  The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given.  VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

The proposed project would replace the existing bridge with a new structure that meets current geometric standards.  In addition, improvements to the turning and sight conditions at Route 635 would be considered.

Comments about the proposed project may be submitted at the hearing or until January 25, 2013  (February 1 if hearing is held on inclement weather date) by mailing them to Aaron Collins, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, Va., 24501.  Comments also can be emailed to lynchburginfo@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “Route 643 over Horsley Creek Public Hearing Comment” in the subject heading.

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this hearing may contact the project manager at 434-947-6559, 800-367-7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
