VDOT HOLDS PUBLIC HEARING ON ROUTE 643 BRIDGE OVER FALLING RIVER PROJECT IN CAMPBELL COUNTY

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing on a proposed project to replace the bridge and approaches on Route 643 over Falling River in Campbell County.

The hearing will be held on Tuesday, December 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the William Campbell High School, 474 William Campbell Drive, Naruna, VA.  An inclement weather date of Tuesday, December 11, 2012 will be used if necessary.

This hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give VDOT input on the proposed project.  The hearing will be held in an open-house format with no formal presentation given.  VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the proposed project and to answer questions.

The primary purpose of this project is to replace the existing one-lane, structurally deficient bridge while improving the approach roadway geometrics.   The new structure will be located immediately north of the existing structure allowing traffic to be maintained on existing alignment with a minimum of three months closure during construction.

Comments about the proposed project may be submitted at the hearing or until December 14, 2012 (December 21 if hearing is held on inclement weather date) by mailing them to Laura Walton, Project Manager, Virginia Department of Transportation, 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, Va., 24501.  Comments also can be emailed to lynchburginfo@vdot.virginia.gov. Please reference “Route 643 Bridge Replacement Public Hearing Comment” in the subject heading.

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this hearing may contact the project manager at 434-947-6559, 800-367-7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
