UPDATE: US 29 NORTH TRAFFIC TO BE DETOURED DURING BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
Crews begin work on Buffalo River Bridge project in Amherst County
Beginning Tuesday, December 4, 2012, motorists will face temporary lane closures both north- and southbound on Route 29 in the vicinity of the Buffalo River crossing in Amherst County.
Crews will begin widening pavement and constructing crossovers for a detour which will be in place during the bridge replacement project. Signs, channelizing devices and other traffic control measures will be used to direct motorists.
Once the crossovers are complete, both US 29 North and South traffic will use the southbound lanes until the project completion in April 2014. Earlier this week, it was reported that the detour was already in place; however, that information was incorrect.
The current structure was built in 1931 and will be replaced with new two-lane structure with minimal reconstruction of the approaches at either end of the bridge.
