TRAFFIC PATTERN TO CHANGE ON CANDLER’S MOUNTAIN ROAD BRIDGE PROJECT
VDOT opening both lanes for approximately two months
The Candler’s Mountain Road Bridge project in front of River Ridge Mall has resulted in delays for motorists since it began earlier this year. Beginning on or before November 15, VDOT will take steps to return access to the busy area in time for the upcoming shopping season.
Currently, one of the two lanes on the bridge is closed to traffic and motorists must use a detour to access the Mall area. While barriers will remain in place after November 15 to protect the traveling public from an approximately four-inch difference in elevation between the new and old bridge surfaces, both lanes of the bridge will be open to traffic.
In addition, motorists will be able to access River Ridge Mall and other businesses by using either the left-turn lane that has been closed during the bridge work or from the right lane via the current detour.
This two-lane configuration will be in effect until mid-January when the right lane of the bridge will be closed to complete the bridge restoration which has been delayed due to additional necessary repairs.
The entire project will be substantially complete and both lanes open to traffic by May 2, 2013.
