ROUTE 689 BRIDGE WIDENING WILL RESULT IN DETOUR FOR MOTORISTS

LYNCHBURG-Motorists who currently use the Route 689 (East Monitor Road) Bridge over Huff Creek in Amherst County will see vast improvement in the structure following work to begin next month; however, they will use an alternate route during the project.

The work is slated to begin April 2 and the closure will last until approximately July 6.  The current one-lane structure will be widened to 22 ft. and the deck will be replaced.  Route 689 will be closed from the intersection with Route 617 (Baileys Sawmill Road) to the intersection with Route 690 (Huff Creek Trail).  The signed detour route, approximately 2.7 miles in length, will be via Route 60 west (Lexington Turnpike) and Route 617 north (Baileys Sawmill Road).
