PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED FOR ROUTE 623 PROJECT IN PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY
Meeting Scheduled for August 28

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will host a design public hearing  regarding improvements to Route 623, Twin Bridges Road, in Prince Edward County.

The primary purpose of this project is to replace the two existing one-lane bridges over the double track Norfolk Southern Railway and the single track Virginia Southern Railway with one two-lane bridge. Along with the improvement to the horizontal roadway alignment, the project will greatly improve safety and traffic flow on Route 623.

A temporary construction entrance will be necessary to allow access between the two railroad lines and temporary lane closures will take place on both Route 360 and 623.  Through traffic will be maintained at other times.

The approximately $4.1 million project could be advertised for construction in January 2014.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, between 4 and 6 p.m. at the Cedar Crest Conference Center, Twin Lakes State Park, 22 Cedar Crest Road, Green Bay, VA 23942.

Additional information on the project can be viewed at VDOT’s Lynchburg District Office at 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501, 434-947-6559, 800-367-7623, TTY/TDD 711.  Please call ahead to ensure the availability of appropriate personnel to answer your questions.
