CANDLER’S MOUNTAIN ROAD BRIDGE INSPECTION WILL CREATE DELAYS
Inspection will take place in eastbound lanes ---River Ridge Mall side of roadway

Crews under contract to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will inspect various structures in the ten-county Lynchburg District during April, including the eastbound lanes of Route 128, Candler’s Mountain Road near River Ridge Mall over the Norfolk Southern Railway.

The work will take place on Tuesday, April 10 from 9 a.m. to Noon and is subject to change due to weather and/or the availability of equipment/manpower. For the safety of the public and workers, lane closures will be used during this work.

VDOT is required to inspect bridge structures are regular intervals not to exceed 24 months.  Inspections help the Department to monitor the conditions of structures and to schedule necessary maintenance to keep structures in the best condition possible.

For several weeks, motorists have been alerted to work on the sister structure to this one.  Next week, a work zone will be erected in the westbound lanes of Candler’s Mountain Road so structure repairs can start and the westbound will be reduced to one lane of traffic for several months.
