VDOT TO HOST ODD FELLOW ROAD INTERCHANGE PROJECT CITIZEN INFORMATION MEETING

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will host a citizen information meeting regarding proposed improvements to Odd Fellows Road and Routes 460/29 in Lynchburg. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, between 4 and 6 p.m. at the Information Technology Building - City of Lynchburg located at 4550 Young Place in Lynchburg.

The primary purpose of the project is to reduce the increasing congestion levels and heavy truck movements on Candler’s Mountain Road and give industrial traffic more direct entry to Routes 460/29.  The project will extend Odd Fellows Road across Routes 460/29 to Top Ridge Road.

The project is anticipated to be delivered through the Design-Build procurement process.  Design-build is a method of project delivery in which one entity - the design-build team - works under a single contract with the project owner (VDOT) to provide design and construction services. Utilizing the Design-Build Process will streamline procurement and construction of this project.  VDOT will prepare the base documents and define the scope of the project.  Then, the design-build team will begin construction while design is still underway, greatly reducing the overall time and cost to complete the entire project. The approximately $31 million project could be advertised for construction in fall of 2014.

Additional information on the project can be viewed at VDOT’s Lynchburg District Office at 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501, 434-947-6559, 800-367-7623, TTY/TDD 711.  Please call ahead to ensure the availability of appropriate personnel to answer your questions.
