TYE RIVER BRIDGE OPENING DELAYED
Weather and other events prevent pre-Christmas opening
Motorists will continue to use the southbound lanes of US 29 at the Amherst/Nelson County line to cross the Tye River for a little longer. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and American Infrastructures, prime contractor on the bridge project, had hoped to have one lane of the northbound structure open to traffic prior to the holidays but weather and scheduling conflicts delayed that opening.
Current plans are to open the entire bridge once all safety concerns are addressed after the year, weather permitting. The temporary crossover will be closed and removed at a later date.
The project continues to be ahead of the anticipated September 2012 completion date.
