TYE RIVER BRIDGE OPENING DELAYED
Weather and other events prevent pre-Christmas opening

LYNCHBURG — Motorists will continue to use the southbound lanes of US 29 at the Amherst/Nelson County line to cross the Tye River for a little longer.  The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and American Infrastructures, prime contractor on the bridge project, had hoped to have one lane of the northbound structure open to traffic prior to the holidays but weather and other events have delayed that opening.

Current plans are to open the entire bridge once pavement marking is completed next week, weather permitting.  The temporary crossover will be closed and removed at a later date.
