Numerous roads across VDOT’s Lynchburg District closed

LYNCHBURG – Many roads are closed throughout the state, including numerous routes in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

Heavy rains overnight have closed portions of primary and secondary routes in Amherst, Appomattox, Campbell, Nelson, and Pittsylvania counties in the Lynchburg District.

VDOT crews expect to have US 460 near Mt. Athos in Campbell County reopened within the next hour.  The road was closed earlier today due to a mud slide and debris in the roadway.  In addition, crews are making repairs to US 501, just north of Rustburg.  The shoulder of the road is closed and flaggers are assisting traffic, as necessary.

While conditions are changing rapidly, motorists should expect some long-term closures.  Several roads, including Route 678 in Campbell County and 931 in Pittsylvania County are closed due to washouts/pipe failures.
