MOTORISTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO DELAY TRAVEL
LYNCHBURG – Crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have continued to plow and treat their first priority - the primary roads (those numbered 1-599), as appropriate, throughout the night. Despite their best efforts, roads in many areas remain snow covered.
Drivers are encouraged to delay trips today if at all possible until the winter weather stops and crews can make more progress on roads. For the latest road conditions, motorists can dial 511 or visit www.511Virginia.org.
As of 4 a.m., primary road conditions in VDOT ‘s 10-county Lynchburg District are moderate which means the roads are covered in snow.
Secondary roads (those numbered 600 and above) and neighborhood streets are in moderate to severe condition this morning with several inches of snow accumulated on the road surfaces. Once the snow stops and these major roads are clear, VDOT will begin to work on secondary roads and neighborhood streets as conditions warrant.
The Lynchburg District includes the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.
