LYNCHBURG – It is back to work this morning for many and road conditions have improved since the holiday weekend; however, motorists should remain alert to possible icy conditions.

Crews with the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) continued to work primary roads (those numbered 1-599), secondary routes (those numbered 600 and above) and neighborhood streets over night. The Lynchburg District covers the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.

Because of high winds and blowing snow, crews have returned to the primary routes numerous times and those roads are generally clear with some icy spots.  Secondary roads in the district may still be snow or ice covered in many areas due to the cold temperatures last night.

Conditions are expected to improve throughout the day; however, motorists should be prepared for refreezing tonight.

For the latest road conditions, motorists may dial 511 or visit To report a maintenance issue, call VDOT’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (1-800-367-7623).
