Motorists should continue to be alert to the possibility of icy surfaces

LYNCHBURG – Road conditions across the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have continued to improve today; however, any moisture remaining on surfaces may refreeze overnight and motorists should continue to be vigilant.

Primary roads (those numbered 1-599) are generally clear throughout the district.  Secondary roads (600 and above) and neighborhood streets have some spotty snow and ice.  In addition, high wind continues to blow snow back onto some road surfaces.

VDOT crews will monitor road and structures overnight, as appropriate and take steps necessary to ensure that any icy conditions are mitigated.

The Lynchburg District covers the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward.

For the latest road conditions, motorists may dial 511 or visit To report a maintenance issue, call VDOT’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-FOR-ROAD (1-800-367-7623).
