LYNCHBURG – Caution is key this morning on many roads throughout the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).  Icy conditions prevail.

While major roadways are generally clear of snow, patches of snow and icy spots remain and motorists should be alert to these conditions.  In addition, while many secondary and subdivision have seen a snowplow, the roads remain snow covered.

Motorists will need to use extreme caution over the next several days. Water from snow melting during the day will freeze when temperatures drop into the teens after dark and icy conditions will exist during the morning hours.

VDOT crews will continue treating highways with salt and sand to combat overnight refreezing as needed. Drivers should decrease their speed and anticipate slick conditions, particularly on bridge decks, entrance and exit ramps and roads at high elevations.
