LYNCHBURG—Three contracts were recently awarded for highway improvements in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). 

Pearson Construction, Inc. of Dillwyn was awarded an $827,000 contract for a project on Route 613 in Appomattox County.  The project will widen a 1.05 mile section of the road.  The new roadway will have a 20 foot-wide travel way and 4 foot paved shoulders along either lane.  The project has a fixed completion date of August 9, 2011 and minimal delays can be expected during construction. 

An approximately $1.4 million contract was awarded to Whitehurst Paving Company, Inc. of Richmond, for the surface treatment of various secondary routes throughout Pittsylvania County.  Minor delays are possible during these operations which are slated for completion by June 30, 2011. 

Also, in Pittsylvania County, White’s Construction Company, Inc. of Sutherlin was awarded a $73,000 contract for reconstruction of a portion of Route 1162 (Carter Drive) in order to bring the roadway into the State Secondary System through the Rural Addition program.  The project has a fixed completion of December 13, 2010.
