Demolition to begin on Route 29 Business Bridge
Route 29 Bypass traffic will use ramps during nighttime demolition operations

LYNCHBURG—Demolition of the Route 29 Business/Main Street Bridge over Route 29 Bypass north of Chatham will begin next week.  Motorists on Route 29 Bypass should expect a change in traffic pattern during these overnight operations and those using Route 29 Business will begin using the signed detour.

Demolition work will take place during the overnight hours to avoid significant delays for motorists and to address safety issues.  To accomplish this work, the contractor will need to close each side of Route 29 Bypass to traffic.  Traffic will be moved to the ramps to continue travel. The closure will begin in the southbound lanes and will move to the northbound lanes upon completion; demolition and the Route 29 Bypass lane closures will last approximately one week.

As a result of this work and the planned rebuild of the bridge, Route 29 Business/Main Street will be closed to through traffic and motorists will begin using the signed detour.  The bridge closure will last approximately 270 days.
