VDOT KEEPING AN EYE ON THE WEATHER

LYNCHBURG – Occasional rain and snow showers are possible over much of the Commonwealth of Virginia tonight and early Tuesday morning, including locations in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The Lynchburg District is comprised of the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward in the south-central portion of the state.

VDOT facilities in Amherst and Nelson Counties will be staffed late tonight and into tomorrow morning in anticipation of possible icy conditions. Conditions in other locations will also be monitored.

Motorists are urged to remain alert and use caution should travel be necessary during the late evening or early morning hours. Icy spots and black ice are possible in some areas. Motorists should be particularly careful on bridges, overpasses, turn lanes, ramps and intersections, as well as roads at higher elevations.

Drivers should remain aware of current weather and traffic conditions. Before leaving your location, visit www.511Virginia.org, or call 511 from any telephone.
