Slow Down in the Work Zone
Additional law enforcement presence possible on Bedford Avenue
Crews with W. C. English, Inc. the project’s prime contractor have observed motorists driving at a high rate of speed, disregarding pilot vehicles and flagpersons, talking on cell phones and putting themselves and crewmembers at risk.
English and VDOT share a goal of providing a safe work environment for their employees while ensuring the safety of motorists. For this reason, lane closures have been put in place, signs and flagging personnel have directed motorists through the work zone and efforts have been made to avoid closure of the entire road during peak hours.
Local law enforcement personnel will increase their presence in the work zone and address problems that may occur.
Motorists should be aware of this and other highway work zones. Information about work zones may be obtained by visiting www.511Virginia.org or calling 511.
