APPPOMATTOX - Motorists are unable to use portions of Route 26, north of the Town of Appomattox, following an early morning gas pipeline fire.

VDOT crews have closed the road at the request of Virginia State Police and detours have been established.

Emergency crews have been on the scene for a couple of hours and have shut off the pipeline; however, residual gas in the line could still be burning.
