Highway Projects Awarded
A contract valued at over $884,000 was awarded to Burleigh Construction Co., Inc. of Concord, for a bridge replacement project on Route 501 over Suck Creek in Campbell County. The existing structure will be removed and replaced and the immediate approaches to the bridge upgraded. Traffic will be maintained during the construction of this project by using phased construction with a single lane of traffic controlled by traffic signals at either end of the project. The fixed completion date of this improvement is November 15, 2008.
In addition, Burleigh Construction Co., Inc. was also awarded a contract valued at over $888,000 for minor rehabilitation of two bridges on Route 460 in Prince Edward County. The first structure is located on Route 460 over Bush River; while the second is located on Route 460 West over eastbound Route 460 Business. The geometrics of neither structure will change as a result of the milling and patching of decks, reconstruction of joints, and other work. The goal of the project is preventive maintenance --- to extend the useful life of the structures. The impact on motorists should be minimal and only one lane of traffic should be closed at a time on each structure. The fixed completion for these operations is November 15, 2008.
