HIGHWAY CONTRACTS AWARDED
Burleigh Construction Co., Inc. of Concord, VA was awarded a $483,000 contract to improve the vertical alignment of a portion of Route 15 Business in Charlotte County. The project will improve sight distance significantly and help to ensure the safety of the traveling public through the area. Traffic will be restricted to one lane with flaggers during grading and paving operations and motorists will experience unpaved and uneven surfaces. The project is slated for completion by November 10, 2008.
R. W. Harris Excavating, Inc. of Madison Heights, VA was awarded a $512,000 contract to improve safety along Route 659 (Buffalo Ridge Road) in Amherst County and Route 709 (Chapel Hollow Road) in Nelson County by upgrading the travel surface as part of VDOT’s Rural Rustic Roads program. The projects include the re-grading and shaping of existing gravel roads, minor shoulder shaping and ditch line grading and cleaning. Minimal traffic delays are expected; alternate routes are available. The completion date for the project is December 11, 2008.
