ROUTE 680 BRIDGE OVER STALLINGS CREEK REPLACEMENT PROJECT NOW COMPLETE
Project completed on-budget and ahead of schedule

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY– On Monday, November 21, crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) completed a project to replace the bridge on Route 680 over Stallings Creek.

Crews demolished, removed and replaced the bridge on Route 680 over Stallings Creek. Also, the approach roadway was rebuilt to tie into the new bridge. The new bridge has been elevated and is 50 feet long and 26 feet wide. There is no longer a weight limit on the new bridge.

In March 2016, Abernathy Construction, Inc. was awarded the $1.7 million contract for Route 680 over Stallings Creek Bridge Replacement and Route 621 Bridge Replacement over Passenger Swamp. The project began on May 16, 2016, and was completed on-budget and ahead of the scheduled completion date of June 2017. Work on the Route 621 project is still underway.
