ROUTE 659 BRIDGE OVER FLAT SWAMP CREEK PROJECT NOW COMPLETE

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY — On Tuesday, November 1, crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) completed a project to demolish and replace the Route 659 Bridge over Flat Swamp Creek in Southampton County.

Crews widened the new concrete slab bridge to 50 feet long and 27 feet wide, replaced the guardrail and rebuilt the approach roadway to tie into the newly constructed bridge.

Infrastructure & Industrial Contractors Southeast Inc. was awarded the $1.3 million contract for the new bridge replacement in December 2015. The project began on March 7, 2016, and was completed on time.
