ROUTE 621 OVER PASSENGER SWAMP BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT READY TO BEGIN
Construction scheduled to start June 28

ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY– A project to demolish, remove and replace the existing bridge on Route 621 over Passenger Swamp is scheduled to begin construction on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Contract crews for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will replace the bridge and rebuild the approach roadway to tie into the new bridge.

In March 2016 Abernathy Construction, Inc. was awarded the $1.7 million contract for Route 621 over Passenger Swamp Bridge Replacement and Route 680 over Stallings Creek Bridge Replacement. The Route 621 project will continue over the next 12 months, with completion scheduled for June 2017.

Signed detours will be in place. Motorists are advised to use the following detour for Route 621 over Passenger Swamp:

Passenger Vehicle Detour from Westbound Mill Swamp Road:

From Mill Swamp Road turn left onto Stallings Creek Drive, then turn right onto Green Level Road. From Green Level Road turn right onto Modest Neck Road, then turn left onto Mill Swamp Road to complete the detour.   

Passenger Vehicle Detour from Eastbound Mill Swamp Road:

From Mill Swamp Road turn right onto Modest Neck Road, then turn left onto Green Level Road. From Green Level Road turn left onto Stallings Creek Drive, then turn right onto Mill Swamp Road to complete the detour.
