ROUTE 301 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT OVER NOTTOWAY RIVER PROJECT READY TO BEGIN
Construction scheduled to start September 15, 2016

SUSSEX COUNTY– A project to demolish, remove and replace the existing bridge over the Nottoway River on Route 301 is scheduled to begin construction on Thursday, September 15.

Contract crews for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will demolish then replace the bridge and rebuild the approach roadway to tie into the new bridge. The new bridge will be 265 feet long and 32 feet wide. All construction work is dependent upon weather conditions.

The Route 301 Bridge over Nottoway River will close to traffic in both the northbound and southbound directions. Signed detours will be in place for motorists.

English Construction was awarded the $2.7 million contract for the new bridge replacement on July 5, 2016. The project will continue over the next 15 months, with completion scheduled for December 2017.
