MONTICELLO AVENUE AND IRONBOUND ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT NOW COMPLETE
Project to improve safety and increase capacity completed on-time
JAMES CITY COUNTY — On Monday, May 23, crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) completed a project to improve the News Road intersections at Monticello Avenue (Route 321) and Ironbound Road (Route 615) in James City County.
Along with the addition of a new 11-foot lane, curbs and gutters on Ironbound Road, a second right turn lane was added from News Road onto Ironbound Road. A second left turn lane was also added from Monticello Avenue onto News Road. Pedestrian safety improvements included updating the sidewalk handicap ramps at the intersections to improve accessibility and reconstructing new sidewalks.
Basic Construction Company, LLC was awarded the construction contract in the amount of $2.1 million. The project began in March 2015 and was completed in advance of the scheduled completion date of May 27, 2016.
