I-95 BRIDGE REPLACEMENT PROJECT OVER THE MEHERRIN RIVER READY TO BEGIN
Construction scheduled to start next week
EMPORIA – A project to demolish, remove and replace the existing two bridges over the Meherrin River on I-95 is scheduled to begin construction on Monday, Jan. 18. Contract crews for the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will replace the two bridges, to include realignment of the south bridge and installation of storm water facilities.
During Phase I which consists of work on the southbound bridge, the current traffic pattern will be maintained until March 2016. Starting in March 2016 there will be intermittent single-lane closures with advance notification.
Wagman Construction, Inc. was awarded the $22.2 million contract for the two new bridges over the Meherrin River. The project will continue over the next 46 months, with completion scheduled for October 2019.
There will be intermittent traffic shifts and single-lane closures throughout the duration of the project. For the majority of the project, two lanes of traffic will be maintained. To learn more, please visit http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/hamptonroads/i95_bridge_replacement.asp
