Project will repair and waterproof decks for northbound approach bridges

Suffolk, Va. – The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded a contract this week worth approximately $5.4 million to The Truesdell Corporation of Tempe, Arizona for waterproofing and repairs on the decks for the approach bridges to the northbound I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel.

The work will help extend the life expectancy of the structures for another 15-20 years. Project completion is expected in July 2019. The waterproofing of the southbound approach bridges was completed in 2014.

Work will be done with single-lane closures on weeknights. All lanes will be open to traffic during peak rush hour periods. VDOT performs most maintenance work at night to minimize impacts to motorists.
