VDOT TO BREAK GROUND ON FIRST SEGMENT OF I-64 WIDENING PROJECT
Event will celebrate the start of construction on long-awaited project
NEWPORT NEWS —A ceremonial groundbreaking on Interstate 64 near Jefferson Avenue will celebrate the beginning of a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) construction project to bring congestion relief to one of the most heavily traveled areas on the Peninsula.
Divided into three segments, the I-64 Widening Project will add one travel lane and one shoulder lane in each direction between Jefferson Avenue (exit 255) to the second Route 199 interchange (exit 234) in York County. Construction on the first segment from Jefferson Avenue to Yorktown Road (exit 247) is scheduled to begin in mid-September. The segment is expected to be completed in December 2017.
The groundbreaking ceremony will feature remarks by Governor Terry McAuliffe and other dignitaries. VDOT representatives will also be available for interviews.

From I-64 East or West: Take Jefferson Avenue Exit 255B. Follow Jefferson Avenue to Bland Boulevard. Turn left onto Bland Boulevard. Turn left at second light onto Chatham Drive. Park in the first lot on the right.
