MONTICELLO AVENUE AND IRONBOUND ROAD INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT READY TO BEGIN
Work is scheduled to begin the week of March 9

JAMES CITY COUNTY – A project to improve the News Road intersections at Monticello Avenue (Route 321) and Ironbound Road (Route 615) is scheduled to begin construction in early March.

Basic Construction Company, LLC was awarded the $2.1 million construction contract to improve safety and increase capacity on Monticello Avenue and Ironbound Road through the addition of turn lanes and pedestrian safety improvements, as well as the removal of the existing sign island at Old News Road.

Starting the week of March 9, approximately 400 feet of Ironbound Road will be closed between News Road and Milden Road for utility relocation followed by construction of intersection improvements and turn lanes. A short detour will be implemented rerouting traffic from Ironbound Road onto Old Field Road, Cherry Walk and back to Milden Road through The Meadows subdivision.

Motorists will be advised of any additional lane closures or traffic shifts that may occur during the project, which is scheduled for completion in spring 2016. All construction work is dependent upon weather conditions.
