Crews working quickly to repair panels
SUFFOLK – Virginia Department of Transportation crews are working quickly to reattach two metal panels to the concrete ceiling at the opening of the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel (HRBT) on Interstate 64 eastbound.
Inspectors discovered the two panels were slightly out of position and closed HRBT eastbound immediately to evaluate the two panels as well as the surrounding area.
There is no estimated time as to when the HRBT eastbound will reopen.
Traffic is being detoured to the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel at Interstate 664 and also being turned around at exit 268 (Mallory Street).
