VDOT HIRES KAREN MEYERS AS THE NEWEST ADDITION TO THE HAMPTON ROADS PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE
Meyers Joins the Agency as the new Special Projects Public Affairs Specialist
SUFFOLK–The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) recently hired Karen Meyers as the new public affairs specialist for the Hampton Roads District. Meyers joins the agency with more than fourteen years of experience in the public relations field. She will serve as special assistant and advisor to Frank Fabian, Special Projects Manager on projects of regional significance.
“As a Hampton Roads native and seasoned public relations professional, we are excited to have Ms. Meyers as a part or our team,” says Lauren Hansen, VDOT Hampton Roads District Public Affairs Manager. “Our agency has been seeking the right candidate to help facilitate two-way communication with the public regarding regional special projects and we are eager to get Karen out into the community to begin working with the citizens of the commonwealth.”
Meyer’s experience includes prior positions as marketing director for a local electrical distribution company as well as promotions coordinator and director of the speaker’s bureau at WAVY-TV 10 (NBC Affiliate) and WVBT-Fox 43. She has extensive work experience in public relations, networking with media contacts and organizing community outreach initiatives. Meyers graduated from Barton College in Wilson, NC with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. She is a native of Hampton Roads.
With Meyers’s addition to the public affairs team, she will be responsible for special project outreach including the Elizabeth River Tunnels Project and the Route 460 Improvement Project.
