Middle Ground Boulevard Extension Project Ready to Begin
Construction scheduled to start the week of August 20
NEWPORT NEWS – A project to extend Middle Ground Boulevard between Jefferson Avenue (Route 143) and Warwick Boulevard (Route 60) is scheduled to start construction the week of August 20.
American Infrastructure-Virginia, Inc. was awarded the $38 million design-build contract for the new four-lane divided roadway connecting Jefferson Avenue to Warwick Boulevard by way of Middle Ground Boulevard. Work on the project will begin near the existing intersection of Middle Ground Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue with the clearing of trees and placement of erosion control devices as well as storm water drainage pipes.
The outside southbound lane of Jefferson Avenue will be closed Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. during the week of August 20, weather conditions permitting, to allow crews to work along the existing roadway. The project will continue over the next 30 months, with completion scheduled for December 2014.
