HIGH RISE BRIDGE CLOSURES REVISED FOR THIS WEEKEND
Motorists should use I-264 Downtown Tunnel and the Gilmerton Bridge beginning March 2
CHESAPEAKE– The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has revised the lane closure schedule for the I-64 High Rise Bridge due to weather forecasts predicting rain. The eastbound lane closures previously scheduled for Saturday, March 3, during the daytime hours will be delayed until 7 p.m.
The Friday evening closure for March 2 at 7 p.m. will remain in effect. One eastbound lane will be open to traffic, and the closure will be suspended as of 5 a.m. Saturday, March 3. The westbound lanes are not affected and will remain open to vehicular traffic.
New closure schedule for High Rise Bridge eastbound:
Friday, March 2—One eastbound lane closed, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Saturday, March 3—Eastbound lanes open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday, March 3, 7 p.m. through Monday, March 5, 5 a.m.—All eastbound lanes closed
The closures scheduled for next weekend beginning March 9 have not been revised.
VDOT has initiated an aggressive public awareness campaign, including print ads, traffic sponsorships on local radio stations, billboards at both west- and eastbound bridge ramps, and on-line banner announcements. The public awareness campaign began February 26, and will run until the project is complete.
